Vanilla Comes From an Orchid

Natural vanilla comes from the seed pods of an orchid.
Vanilla planifolia is a climbing orchid. Outside its native Mexico and Central America it must usually be pollinated by hand, flower by flower, which is one reason real vanilla is so expensive.
